The reason why I love these stories in the Old Testament so much is because they show very clearly how far we all fall from the glory of God, how undeservingly gracious He is, and how deeply we need a Savior. We are so intent on evil. The moment we think we don’t see God’s work in our lives and become impatient in His timing, we replace Him in our hearts so easily! All of us can relate to the Israelites in this chapter at some point in our lives, and it’s so sad. But He always remembers His promise to our fathers that they and their offspring will inherit the land forever, along with His promise that “on the day I settle accounts, I will hold them accountable for their sin.” (Verse 34) Whoever lives in their sin will be erased from His Book of Life and not able to inherit the land forever that He promised to His people. It’s made obvious in the Old Testament how all of us would be off of that book if it weren’t for Him unleashing His Spirit to help us. Praise the Lord for His sacrifice so that we can live. In return, let’s choose to sacrifice ourselves every day as well for Him so that we may bring honor and glory to His holy name. If you haven’t made the choice yet to live for Jesus, then I invite you to make today the day to pray for Jesus’ Spirit to live in your heart so that you don’t have to be erased from the Book of Life, but you can instead enjoy life forever with Him in His promised land 🤍
“Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
Revelation 20:15
