At this time, the Levitical priests were instructed to tend the lamp in the tent of meeting all night long before the Lord. Try to remember that there is no Holy Spirit poured out onto the world yet and so there really is no good besides the Lord, and those who faithfully submit to the Lord, such as Moses. Everyone else is walking in the darkness of their own sin with the enemy. The Lord wanted to bring light into the world, but Jesus had not yet come to be our light. So, the Lord knew that even though He wanted to set His people apart from the heathen nations surrounding them by their customs and appearance, these people would not be able to succeed without a Savior. Therefore, while He was laying all of these laws in the Old Testament for the people to follow, it was also an attempt to show everyone how impossible it is for them to make themselves pure. There was no way they could follow all of these laws and instructions perfectly given their sinful condition, and if they thought they could, then their pride would corrupt them. He knows how impure we are and how badly we need Jesus, He just needs us to know as well. So, He took this opportunity after bringing the Israelites out of Egypt in the wilderness to explain to them that He saved them, and how due to their salvation, they can now honor Him by submitting to His statutes, but also how far they fall from the glory of God due to their sin and how they desperately need a Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Following these statutes won’t lead you to salvation, because He’s already saved us, just like He already saved the Israelites from Egypt before giving them their laws. In the same way, not following these statutes won’t lead you to Hell, either, although it exposes a lack of relationship with our Father that will. If you believe in your heart that Jesus died and rose from the grave to save you of your sins, then you’re saved. However, since we have been saved then, and we believe that the Lord has rescued us from our sin and the death that sin would lead you to... we gladly honor Him by faithfully submitting to all and anything that He asks. To know God is to love Him, and to love Him is to obey Him. Thankfully, we have the Holy Spirit with us now to help us submit and obey to His ways, because His ways are GOOD. If you haven’t already asked Jesus to help you love the Lord our God, then make today the day that you start fresh with Him and let Him hold your hand through this life, because we can not succeed on our own 🤍
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.””
John 8:12
