Y’all... it’s a command. Not sure what else to say about this one. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding this. I would just like to remind you that the leader of the world and God are enemies. So, usually when the world is upset about something you’re doing for God... you’re right on target with where He wants you to be. I have had people tell me that we don’t need to do this anymore because the calendars have changed - but the calendars were changed by man so I’m not going to trust that and we still have seven days in a week regardless. Also, the calendar was changed by the Catholic Church from Rome where they worshipped the “sun god of life” every Sunday morning at the first sight of rays.
In Roman culture, Sunday was the day of the Sun god. In paganism, the Sun was a source of life, giving warmth and illumination to mankind. It was the center of a popular cult among Romans, who would stand at dawn to catch the first rays of sunshine as they prayed.
Don’t misunderstand me - nothing can take away your salvation. If you believe that Jesus died on the cross and rose from the grave to forgive you of your sins, then you are saved. Worshipping God on Sunday is great! We should praise His name every day of our lives! I’m only attempting to clear up the world’s confusion of a very simple command - rest. On Google, it says the Lord‘s day is on Sunday because we celebrate when Jesus was resurrected, but it’s not the day He rested, it’s the day He rose. He still rested in the grave on the Sabbath. I’ve also been told that we don’t have to do this because we’re not Israelites and Jesus died to forgive us - but if “Israel” means you wrestle with God and man and prevail, then that does describe me and I strive to follow every other commandment He’s given so why not this one as well? Also, the fact that Jesus died in my place makes me want to obey God all the more! It’s said far too nonchalantly these days: “Oh, Jesus died for our sins.” The God of the heavens who could have perfectly well stayed in heaven chose to live life on this earth as a man and then submitted Himself to abuse and a brutal murder because He didn’t want heaven without me... that’s huge! I will gladly rest on the Sabbath “to be refreshed.” That is such a kind command for God to give us. You mean I don’t have to “hustle hard“ or be a “boss babe“ 24/7 running myself to the ground every day like the world wants of me? Thank You, God. It’s important to remember, too, though, that the Sabbath rest isn’t something that will gain me salvation or break my salvation if I can’t rest that day, because He has already saved me by taking my place in death and giving me His throne in heaven. Praise the Lord! 🙌🏻 I hope you understand the magnitude of His love that means He has for YOU and that you carry that love with you throughout the day today to give your spirit rest of its wearies 🤍
“Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.”
