Verse 10 - The sceptor will not depart from Judah or the staff from between his feet until He whose right it is comes and the obedience of the peoples belong to Him.
I love that each time we read through the Word more and more is lit up for more understanding from the Spirit, especially when it foreshadows our Savior, Christ Jesus. Why did Jesus not come from the line of Joseph, the blessed and afflicted one? Instead, He came from the line of Judah, who saved his brother from death by selling him into slavery and swore his life for his little brother Benjamin. I’m looking forward to reading more and asking the Lord for more understanding about His decision.
“And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”
Revelation 5:5
I think that Jacob gave these prophecies as a statement from God. In other words, no matter what, if they choose to try to do better or not, that will be their fate planned by the Lord. I love this conversational tool to discuss our readings together for further understanding! You have a perspective that I don’t have because I don’t have that older sibling relationship like you do! Seeing how you interpreted Judah’s reaction gave me better clarity about his heart in the moment that I didn’t have by just reading about his actions!
Chapter 49 discussed a series of judgments and prophetic statements Jacob gives to each of his sons as he is about to take his last breath.
“Genesis 49:1: And Jacob called unto his sons, and said, Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the last days.”
I wonder if Jacob holding this intervention with his sons will alter their path in anyway. Will those that did not receive such good news or report try to become better? Why wouldn’t Jacob intervene earlier in hopes of a change, why wait until his last days?
I also love how we are able to understand more as we continue to read and share the word with…
