Genesis 4

Writer's picture: SofiaSofia

God liked the pleasant aroma of the meat burning but meant no offense to Cain by it that's why he even said "why do you look despondent? If you do what is right, won't you be accepted?" I am lead to believe that Lamech killed someone else... he's a descendant of Cain by about 5 generations so it seems unlikely that he murdered Cain. I think God is trying to drive home the fact that we should never seek our own revenge because "sin is crouching at the door. It's desire is for you, but you must rule over it." And God said whoever kills Cain will "suffer vengeance seven times over." It's also interesting to note that Lamech confessed he is also a murderer and says if Cain will be avenged seven times over then "for Lamech it will be seventy-seven times!" And Jesus tells us in the New Testament that whenever we are wronged don't just forgive our brother 7 times but seventy-seven times.

it's so good being able to chunk it up like this and talk about it after every chapter! I'm seeing a lot more this time around than any other time too but I'm sure that'll keep happening forever. In the first verse, Eve gave birth to Cain and said "I have had a male child with the lords help." I thought it was great that even though she was disciplined by the lord and exiled from the garden, she still gave glory to god after she conceived. It's an important model for us as the mother of all the living to remain faithful no matter our discipline. I also noticed that the lord told Cain he would be a "restless wanderer" twice which made me understand that having no rest in life is punishment from the lord. My first time reading this chapter I was confused how Cain was intimate with his wife when Adam and Eve only had two sons but after doing some research online I saw that Adam and Eve's responsibility was to be fruitful and multiply so they probably had a lot of children who had probably another generation of children by the time Cain met a wife... but the story is only focused on the two brothers so that's the only two names we get at this particular time. Cain became the builder of a city so there must've been multiple generations at that point and what I saw online was that they wouldn't have been affected by insest at that point because Adam and Eve were created as gods to be in His image so they were perfect until the fall and after the fall every generation is essentially deteriorating until the end of mankind.... which is completely opposite of the theory of evolution where we were first primates and cave men and are getting increasingly advanced in every generation which is obviously a lie.

“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭18:21-22‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Jk he says seventy times seven
