So Isaac was old and it was time to pass his blessing on to his firstborn who had the birthright at that time to inherit all from his father. However we know from chapter 25: “The Lord said to her, “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.” So the older brother will not be inherited his blessings. Rebekah commanded Jacob twice to obey her, having known from god that Jacob was intended to be the heir of the blessing and not esau, despite isaacs love for esau. Even though Jacob was deceptive, he deceived out of good conscious to the lord since he was obeying his mother. ““Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.””
Ephesians 6:2-3 NIV ....”the Lord worked it out” (20) for Jacob that Isaac believed the deception and blessed him instead of his oldest brother esau. Even when Isaac asked him if he was esau in verse 24 Jacob faithfully replied “I am” in all obedience to his command..... so then after submitting and being obedient, he was blessed, and his brother was cursed. And even in fearful trembling, he did not admit the truth or run away, but stood firm in obedience and kept his lips shut... and again we see the blessed obediently leaving his comfortable home to the unknown at the end of the chapter.
