So today was chapter 23... I noticed that Sarah lived 127 years which is longer than the original 120 the lord said he would give so she was definitely blessed. The second verse where Abraham went to mourn for Sarah and weep for her reminded me of John 11:35 where Jesus heard that Lazarus has died and also "wept." In verse 4 he reminds everyone that he is a foreign resident among them. I also feel sometimes lonely that I'm a foreign resident in this world as I try my best to remain faithful to my true home. In verse 7 Abraham was offered any burial site in the land and chose to express humility when he "bowed down" to them despite his privileged state. Again in verse 12 the man offered a free burial site and Abraham "bowed down to the people of the land" and would not accept it free but insisted on paying for it instead. It's hard for me to express humility especially in front of people offering me whatever I want - I think I would take it with a smile on my face! But this chapter showed me an area I definitely need prayer about in life… Abraham bowed to the people of that land for the same reason that jesus told us that if we want to be first, we must make ourselves last. It is our duty as christians to serve everyone around us, making ourselves a burden to noone, and carrying the burdens of everyone, in order for the lord to make us first in His kingdom.
