So what I took from chapter 20 for us was to make sure that no matter what we do, do it in good conscious before the lord. If we sin with a good conscious, the lord will teach us his ways and help us and forgive us without counting it as a sin towards us, just like the example of abimelech in this chapter. It reminded me of 1 Peter 3:16 “Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.”
Abimelech sinned but not on purpose which left him with a clear conscience before god.. when he obeyed the lord and returned his wife, giving Abraham more sheep cattle and slaves along with his wife, Abraham prays to god and god healed abimelech and his wife and female slaves so that they could bear children again... abimelech was faithful and the lord was as well faithful and no harm was done because it was all in good conscience before the lord.
It's important for us to always make sure we live in good conscience with the lord as well and make every effort not to knowingly sin, but remember that if we do, the lord is always quick to teach us and forgive us after we've repented of that sin out of his compassion for us
