I sat in a sermon once about missionaries and they talked about Adam and Eve being exiled from the garden and the people from the Tower of Babel and how god had all of them leave their hometowns and go and how we should take that as an example in our own lives to go to different places to spread the good news as well so I wanted to mention that here. The generations listed are to show that Abram comes from the family line of Shem from Noah. Abram and Sarai couldn't conceive in order to glorify god in later chapters.
I hope so.... when I sat through that sermon I was reminded that my mission is in my home and my job is to spread gods word to the children he gave me to teach... but you know how it is when you're a teacher you just love being able to teach everyone around you since it's our special way of helping.
