Exodus 5

Later, Moses and Aaron went in and said to Pharaoh, “This is what Yahweh, the God of Israel, says: Let My people go, so that they may hold a festival for Me in the wilderness.”

Verse 1

It’s hard to rewire my brain to understand what really happened after watching the Prince of Egypt too many times as a kids. In the movie, Moses is depicted as this fearless prince who confidentially walked up to Pharaoh and said “Let my people go!” However, we’re reading here how terrified Moses was, how much he really didn’t think Pharaoh would listen to him, and how he wasn‘t even a good speaker so Aaron had to do all of the talking for him. I love, then, how this chapter opens up with the first verse saying ”Later, Moses and Aaron went in and said to Pharaoh...” since Moses had been so against the mission and had pleaded with the Lord 3 times previously to not make him go... and he went anyway. I hope you’ll also choose to submit to the Lord’s mission He is giving you today in the same way, especially if you don’t want to!

“What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’ ‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go. “Which of the two did what his father wanted?” “The first,” they answered. Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.”

Good points! In chapter 5 of Exodus, the Pharaoh was angered that Moses and Aaron wanted to take the Israelites out of Egypt so he decided to give them a hard time and punish them even more with their tasks.

Verse 7: “Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.”

This saddened Moses that he was not able to successfully take the people from the Pharaoh ownership and he questioned God for the Pharaoh act of pure evilness.

Verse 22: “2 And Moses returned unto the Lord, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?”
