Exodus 21

Writer's picture: SofiaSofia

Did you know that the Lord bought you for a price? You were paid for by His blood shed for you. You no longer belong to this world, that does not know up from down, or right from left. Everyone is just doing what feels right in their own eyes, not knowing that their actions of sin are only separating themselves farther and farther from their One True source of satisfaction. If you have a family, then you know what it feels like to be bound to them and the responsibility that entails. You no longer have the freedom to sleep in, go shopping all day to multiple stores, and buy whatever you want. There is a freedom that is lost by being bound to loved ones, but wouldn’t we choose being bound to them 1,000 times more than choosing to live freely alone again?! You gladly lay down your past life for your new family because you realize that nothing in this world could ever bring you the same joy in your heart as your child’s laugh, or hearing the pit patter of their feet running down the hall. You choose to be bound out of your pure love in your heart for them. In the same way, when we choose to be bound to Christ and His mission to spread the good news “to the ends of the earth,” we choose to give up some amount of freedom in order to be His worker. There is a biblically expected attire, speech, and manner that we are commanded to present ourselves with as His soldier in this army. However, as the freedom lost with having a family brings so much more joy, so does the freedom lost with being His servant bring us so much more joy and hope for eternity! For these things, we gladly lay down our freedom! We choose to be bound forever out of the pure love in our heart for what He’s done for us and gladly refuse our freedom. If you choose to be a servant of the One True Lord today, then ask Him to use you, and find joy in serving Jesus Christ for life.

“For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭7:22
